2022 Favourites (So Far!)

2022 Favourites (So Far!)

I truly can't believe that it's almost July already... where has this year gone??

Welcome back to A Novel Idea! In this week's blog post, I'm going to be sharing my favourite reads of 2022 to date. Maybe you'll find some newbies and maybe others will be moved up in your TBR? Let's find out!

(P.S. These books are ordered by the date I read them, so from January to now.)

 .

1. Savage Rivals by Becca Steele
Tropes: Athletes (Soccer), Awakened Sexuality, Enemies to Lovers, Forbidden Relationships, High School

 .

I was so mad at myself for not picking this book up sooner because despite reading it in January, it knew that it was going to be one of my favourite reads of the year.
Asher & Levi are some of my favourite MCs ever. I loved their chemistry, their rivalry, their bond... everything was perfect.

2. Strings Attached by Riley Hart
Tropes: Age Gap, Best Friend's Father, Failed Casual Relationship, Feel Good, Friends to Lovers
.
I absolutely adored this book! Our MCs are such sweethearts and have worked so hard to be where they are despite the crappy hands they've been dealt in life.
.
This book was also much more of a feel good romance than I'd expected! Traditionally with best friend's dad romances, the 'climax' of the story is when the son finds out his friend and his dad are sleeping together, but this book was completely different which was so refreshing!

3. A Guy Walks into My Bar by Lauren Blakely
Tropes: Failed Casual Relationship, Athletes
.
Lauren Blakely never misses, I'm telling you.
This book was so much more than I expected! It was funny and flirty, but also beautiful and vulnerable.
.
I loved both of our MCs and watching them realise that falling for one another was inevitable, despite what they wanted to believe.
.
.
.
4. Iris by Eden Finley
Tropes: Failed Casual Relationship, Forbidden Relationship, Friends to Lovers, Military
.
Honestly, I wasn't sure how much I wanted to read Iris' story until Eden announced it... and now I can officially say that Iris & Saint are 100% my favourite couple out of all Eden Finley's works. And that's saying something!
.
This book contained so many of my favourite tropes and I'm kind of sad that it flew by so quickly! But also excited to reread it in the future.

5. Love in a Truck Stop Bathroom by Sebastian O'Connor
Tropes: Anonymous Texting, Colleagues, Failed Casual Relationship, Feel Good, Novella
.
Okay, this book was wholly unexpected, let me tell you that! I asked for short story recs and this was mentioned so many times that I had to give it a go. Now? I'll recommend it to anyone who wants to read a short story!!
.
Somehow in such a short amount of time, Sebastian O'Connor has managed to construct a beautiful relationship, give us backstory, character development, and enough spice to keep us happy. How on earth did he manage that??

6. Top Notch Boyfriend by Lauren Blakely
Tropes: Failed Casual Relationship, Feel Good, Strangers, Novella
.
I loved absolutely everything about this book and may or may not have added about four of her upcoming books to my TBR after reading it. This was so sweet and fun and quick-paced - not a whole lot to dislike!
.
This novella can be found on the Your Book Boyfriend's Boyfriend page of Prolific Works (I'll link it at the bottom of this blog post).

7. Egotistical Puckboy by Eden Finley & Saxon James
Tropes: Athletes (Hockey), Enemies to Lovers, Failed Casual Relationship
.
I knew that I was going to love this book before I went into it (I mean, hello? Eden & Saxon & their hockey guys? Come on.) But I didn't expect to love it this much!
.
Ezra and Anton nearly took my #1 place as fave couple by these two authors... buuuut Beck and Jacobs are still my reigning champs.
.
.
.
8. Let Me In by Luna David
Tropes: Age Gap, Daddy/Boy, First Time
Also... features a good make-up scene and I cried. A lot.
.
This book, IMO, was amazing. Way more than I expected.
I definitely cried a lot in the first half, but it was still low angst! Just the events and Luna David's writing got to me! I loved all of our characters, the development, the steam, all of it was perfect!
.
Slightly sad that the next book in the series hasn't been released yet, but it's a work in progress and that's enough for me!
.
.
.
9. Moth by Lily Mayne
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Failed Casual Relationship, First Time, Grumpy/Sunshine, Monster/Human
.
I didn't really know what to expect going into this book despite the teasers we'd been given, but holy wow did I love it!
Moth is so precious and needs to be protected at all costs.
.
And Charlie - our pansexual hero. You go, dude. I loved seeing both of our characters opening up to one another and realising they're safe enough with each other to be vulnerable.
Also I should mention - this is a dual POV novel folks!! Which means we get to read about Charlie from Moth's POV, how freaking good!
.

.
10. You & Me by Tal Bauer
Tropes: Awakened Sexuality, Character Arc, Feel Good, Friends to Lovers, Grief/Death
.
This. Book. The characters, the development, the romance, the emotions?! It felt like we were immediately swept into the story and accepted into the community that this family has built.
.
More than anything, you could see so clearly that Luke and Landon were made for one another. Even though we read a lot of romances, I feel like there aren't many instances where you can look at two characters and say that they were created for one another, or that they were placed on this Earth to find one another. Legitimate soulmates. But that is 100% the case with these two guys because they complement each other so well.
.

.
11. Imago by N.R. Walker
Tropes: Feel Good, Strangers
.
I can't believe it took me so long to read this book! N.R. Walker has never let me down before and this book was no different.
.
Lawson and Jack fit each other so well, and there were so many tropes/literary aspects within this book (and the following ones, too) that I absolutely love. If anything, I just wish it were longer!
.
.
.
And those are my favourite reads of 2022 so far! I cannot wait to see what the rest of this year has to bring - I will definitely be making another post at the end of the year with the rest of my faves.
.
Let me know (either here, or message me on any of my socials!) whether you've read any of the books listed here, or if you'll be adding them to your TBR.
